What is TBG?
TBG is short for “The Builders Group,” a self-insured workers’ compensation fund formed to provide workers’ compensation coverage solely for the construction industry in MN.
Who are the sponsoring associations behind TBG?
The sponsoring associations are Minneapolis Builders Exchange, The Builders Association of the Twin Cities, The Builders Exchange of St. Paul, and Builders Association of Minnesota.
When and why was TBG formed?
On May 12, 1997, The Builders Group Workers’ Compensation Self Insurance Group was the first group approved by the Minnesota Department of Commerce under the 1995 authoring legislation. The founders, forming a Board of Trustees to govern the Fund, represent the interests of the members better than the standard insurance market.
Who is eligible to buy this insurance?
Qualifying Members of the four sponsoring associations are eligible to buy.
Why TBG?
TBG is the largest group self-insured workers’ compensation fund in MN, out of 25 funds. TBG members own all the profits and investment income and have opportunity to receive a long-term return on the past premiums they’ve paid. No other insurance company will give you back all their profits.
